Halloween Junior Coaching Postponed

Sadly due to the adverse weather tomorrow morning we have taken the decision to postpone tomorrow’s junior coaching until the following Saturday. The timings and location will remain exactly the same, but 7 days later on the 7th of November.

If your child cannot attend the revised date, then leave contact me to arrange a refund or to transfer your booking to a future coaching session.

New Dates for MCS Junior Coaching

The coaching team are pleased to announce a couple of stand-alone MTB coaching sessions before Xmas. They will take place at the usual 9-acres site and are suitable for children 7-14 years old.

The dates are Saturday 31st Oct and 28th Nov and registration for each will be separate given the uncertainty around the Covid situation. Places will be limited by the number of available coaches and the need to keep to smaller group sizes. First come first served, club membership is required.

For more information, to register and pay please visit https://malverncyclesport.org.uk/2020-junior-coaching-sign-up/. Please note we are asking for payment via Paypal only to reduce administration for our club volunteers.

Brecon Beacons Gap Ride Trip

The original had to be cancelled due to terrible weather, hopefully this is second time lucky!

The club will be running a guided ride around “The Gap” in the Brecon Beacons. This classic route combines the Taff Trail, the Brinmore Tramway and the very popular Gap Road. This 34k,/21mile loop has some of the best natural riding the Brecons has to offer, and places will be limited to 6. Please contact Justin Dawkins to confirm your place.

This ride is open to all club members, but please keep in mind a good level of fitness will be required for this 4 hour loop, which has extensive climbing. In terms of terrain this route does not suit a beginner, but otherwise has only a few technical sections and would be suitable for anyone intermediate and above. For details on the profile and a map, please follow this link: https://www.alltrails.com/…/the-long-gap-brecon-beacons…

Junior Coaching Update

Regrettably, despite every effort to find a safe solution to hosting junior coaching during the current health crisis, the committee has taken the difficult decision not to hold junior coaching in 2020. The possibility of running coaching safely for both attendees and coaches is sadly just not workable at this time. We plan to be back in 2021, better than ever. In the meantime, we will be putting together junior challenges you can do from home, so please watch this space!

Covid-19 Update

Dear All,

To do our part to protect our community, we have had to take the sad decision to suspend all club activities, events and group rides due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19.

All planned clubs events have been suspended, and will be re-scheduled in due course when we have a clearer picture in the next few weeks/months.

The good news is the current government guidance clearly states that outdoor exercise is not forbidden, so get out on those solo rides, bikes are the ultimate way to practice social distancing.

Please do take care of yourselves during these strangest of times.

To spread some positivity please share pictures form your rides on this page so we can all keep connected.

The MCS Cmte.

*UPDATE – CANCELLED* Reliability Ride – Possible Cancellation

It isn’t looking good for the planned club reliability ride on Sunday. Unfortunately Storm Ciara is heading our way. Unless something drastic changes between now and then, which is highly unlikely, it’s most probable that we will have no choice, but cancel the event in the name of rider safety. Rain is tolerable, but gale force winds are not. We’ll make a definite decision on Friday 7th and let everyone know. Sorry folks, but thank you for all of the support and interest re the event so far.

Christmas Ride 2019

Dear members

With reference to the deferment of the Annual General Meeting on 22.11.19, the club committee met on Friday night and have decided to incorporate the AGM into a club-wide event, where people can hear about the future of the club over tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches prior to a ride.

The most inclusive event we have is the Christmas ride on the 15th December.  The committee have decided to hold the AGM immediately before this and for it to last no more than 25 minutes, so please meet us at 8:45am at the H20 Geo Café. We will have a birthday do in the spring early summer.

There are a number of proposals to strengthen our club and these will be emailed to members, and posted on our website and Facebook page prior to the event. Please read them before the meeting as well as reports for the last year.  We will assume that members will have read these before the AGM!  As always, we are looking for more volunteers, so please look at the list of club roles, found here: MCS Roles, and see where you think you could help.  This document: MCS Constitution details minor changes to our constitution to be voted on at the AGM.

The Christmas ride is a great way to get out as a club and enjoy some group riding. There will be rides for all ages, groups and disciplines:

Road A – Led by Steve Fahey

Road B – Led by Rich Bryant

MTB Advanced

MTB Intermediate

MTB Veteran – Led by Gareth Richards

Kids’ ride for all age groups

Best wishes and happy riding

Racing News Round-up

The competition at the HSBC UK National Mountain Bike XC Championships was fast and furious yesterday. With a twisty turny, technically testing course to tackle, both fitness and technical capability were to be key to getting a good result.

Hattie Harnden 2019 NationalsBut our two young exceptionally talented lady superstars from Malvern certainly didn’t disappoint. After a very difficult time recently for Evie being sidelined with a troubling knee injury, how fab it was to see her back to winning ways, and to take the Under 23 National Jersey once again. With a dominating display of true grit and determination, Evie stormed to victory with a clear 6 minute advantage as she crossed the finish line.
But earlier in the day, it was Hattie who would also put in a fantastic performance too in the Junior Women cat, to pull on the National Jersey yet once again. But Hattie didn’t quite have the same advantage as Evie, and was pushed quite hard from behind by the other girls who were desperate to take the National crown away from her. But Hattie kept her cool through the technical sections, kept the gas on, and took a very deserved win in front of the excitedly awaiting crowd.
