Weekend of Cyclo Cross October 2016:
Western Cyclo Cross Series 2nd Oct Cheltenham
Well what a busy weekend for the club. A few of us went and competed at the Western League Cyclo-Cross at Pitville Park in Cheltenham. First up was Amanda Dawson in what was her first ever cross race in the ladies cat. With lots of open grass sections and muddy off camber, it was always going to be doubly hard for her on an mtb with 2.1 summer tyres!. But she worked tremendously hard, did a cracking performance indeed, with 9th female and a probable top 5 in female Vet 40+.
Then came the boys race with Liam Killeen, Dave Creber and Stan Pritchard in the seniors and Ross Harnden starting at the back of the grid in the juniors. With a blistering pace from the start, the field soon started to string out. At the front, after a couple of laps of course familiarisation, Liam resplendent in his Nat Champ Jersey, soon took command and started to pull away to get a convincing lead. However, behind Liam, little groups had formed with some very hard fought battles within them indeed. Dave and Stan worked incredibly hard and gradually worked their way up through the field. Meanwhile, Ross in the juniors who’d started at the back, was setting a fantastic pace and managed to close up through the seniors to join up with Stan. At 3/4 race distance, with Liam leading, all four riders were easily inside the top ten. Then, unbelievably a most undeserved disaster struck for Stan, when a mechanical took him out of the race for a good few minutes! Luckily he managed to rectify it and rejoined the race, but his hard fought position had already slipped well out of his grasp!
After an hours very tough racing, Liam crossed the line 1st, Dave worked very hard for 3rd overall and 2nd u23. Ross came in a cracking 6th overall and 1st junior. After sorting his mechanical, Stan still managed 16th, but was definitely on and sickeningly robbed for a probable overall 6th or 7th place.
Midlands Cyclo Cross league, 2nd Oct, Shelsley Walsh
A number of juniors descended on Shelsley Walsh to take part in the Midlands Cyclo Cross. First up was James, Tom and Lucas in the U6 and U8 category. Fantastic riding by all three boys with Lucas getting a podium place third for the U6 and Tom and James finishing in the top half of the U8 category. Next up was Abby, Elliot and Jack in the toughly fought U12 category, again all three putting on a great performance. Riding later in the day within the Youth category was Hattie Harnden and Jack Robinson, both having great rides with Jack finishing in the top half of the field and Hattie winning the Youth girls.
Not forgetting Josh Brooks adventures in the next field, completing the hill climb course in 3 min 05….all in all a fab weekend for MCS riders.
Please send us your recent results or achievements for the week, so we can collate them and publish them accordingly for an article in a local paper…
